13. What is the role of the PO with regard to the Additional documents and witnesses demanded by the IO? Charged Officer is entitled to ask for the documents which may be of help in his defence. In fact, the Inquiry Officer is required to ask for the details of the documents and witnesses required for the purpose of defence. Although it is for the Inquiry Officer to decide on the relevance of the documents and witnesses cited by the Charged Officer, Presenting Officer need not be a mute spectator at this stage. Being a party to the proceedings, he has a right to express his opinion. Besides, he also has a role to assist the Inquiry Officer by way of bringing to the notice of the latter the rule position and the custodian of the document which has been cited by the Charged Officer
