origin and present status of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)
What is the origin and present status of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)? Central Vigilance Commission was set up by the Government of India by a Resolution, dated 11.2.1964 based on the recommendations of the Committee on Prevention of Corruption [popularly known as Santhanam Committee]. Consequent upon the judgement of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Vineet Narain vs. Union of India [CWP 340-343 of 1993], the Commission was accorded statutory status with effect from 25.8.1998 through "The Central Vigilance Commission Ordinance, 1998”. Subsequently, the CVC Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament in 2003 and the President gave its assent on 11th September 2003. Thus, the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 (No.45 of 2003) came into effect from that date.
