Legal awareness

Legal awareness  or legal literacy means empowering the public by making them familiar with the general things related to the law.

  1.   Legal awareness promotes legal culture, increases people's participation in the making of laws and makes progress towards establishing the rule of law.
  2.  Earlier 'legally literate' meant - 'the ability to read/write legal documents, opinions, judgments, laws etc.'. But now it refers to such an ability related to law that is necessary to live a meaningful life in a legal society.
  3. Some disadvantages caused by legal illiteracy-
    1. Legally illiterate person fears law and runs away from it.
    2. A person who is legally illiterate may unknowingly act against the law or be unable to get help from the law.
    3. A legally illiterate person cannot effectively use his legal rights.
