Subject: Maruvakkad - Attempt to Conduct Prawn Filtration Violating Sec. 16(2) of Kerala Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Rules 2010.
No Prawn Filtration activity can be conducted without Issue of License Certificate in Form No. LPF 2 and Form No. FL 2 and recording the same by the fisheries authority in the statutory registers FL 3 and LPF 3 as per Sec. 16(2) of Kerala Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Rules 2010.
At Maruvakkad and Kandakkadavu Padashekharams in Chellanam Panchayath, attempts have been started with Fisheries Backwater Extension officer Mr. Shinoob's abetment to conduct filtration illegally without issue of above mentioned license certificate. The qualifying conditions for issuing the license is not met and therefore as was done in previous years, the attempt is to conduct prawn filtration illegally. This filtration attempt is being done after practising aquaculture illegally by trespassing into public and private water bodies and preventing pokkali paddy cultivation from April to October months. This illegal activity, disastrous to the ecology of padashekharams, cannot be allowed this year at any cost.
Today, 18.11.2022, in the morning, the sluice regulator has been opened at Maruvakkad Padashekharam and water is now entering into padashkharam. This is in preparation to fix tubular nets at the sluice and allow outward water flow at night during low tide, with tubular nets fixed at the backwater side of the sluice to conduct filtration.
I urge the administration to visit the sluice location, close the sluice immediately and prevent any attempt to conduct filtration without issue of License Certificate in Form No. LPF 2 and Form No. FL 2 as per Sec 16 (2) of Kerala Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Rules 2010.
