Woman can live in her in-laws' house even after divorce (Domestic Violence Act)

 • Under the Domestic Violence Act, 2005, no one can use any of the woman's property against her will.  She can go to court directly without a lawyer.

 • She can live in her in-laws' house even after her husband's death or dispute with her husband.  Can live in the same house even after divorce.  If they want and they have no other place.  (Domestic Violence Act 2005)

 • The right of residence under the DV Act is distinct and separate from any right arising under Section 9 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.  The wife has the right to live in property co-owned by her husband.

 • Muslim women can also ask for maintenance allowance.  Unless she marries again.  Widowed women have the right to receive maintenance from their father-in-law
